The Independence Mine – The Independence mine is predominately a silver mine that produced intermittently from 1938 through 1987. Reported historic production by the various operators totaled 750,200 ounces silver and 11,029 ounces gold. The average recovered grade of all recorded production was 0.17 and 11.53 ounces of gold and silver per ton respectively.

Independence Near Surface Oxide Target:
Measured & Indicated 207,500 oz. gold, 3.6 million oz. silver

The Independence near surface target is comprised of the Independence Zone and Hill Zone areas as described in the 2008 Independence Interim Drill Report. Current NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate stands at 207,500 ounces of gold and 3.6 million ounces of silver in Measured and Indicated resource categories, with additional Inferred resources of 65,500 ounces of gold and 268,000 ounces of silver. General Metal’s 2007-2008 exploration drilling campaigns were designed to bring the gold-silver mineralization in the near surface target into a resource category as defined in Canadian National Instrument 43-101. The Company is in the final stages of completing a NI 43-101 formatted Technical Report. This report contains resource estimates based on historic drilling and the Company’s 84 drill holes completed during its 2007- 2008 drill program. Recent metallurgical test work completed by McClelland Laboratories of Sparks Nevada, indicates the Independence near surface mineralization will be amenable to cost efficient, heap leach technology. A 1.9 ton column test on this ore yielded 91.45 % extraction of gold on material crushed to 80% passing 4 inches. By comparison it is common for many heap leach mines to crush ores to one inch or smaller and to only achieve 70% to 75% extraction of the contained gold. Record gold and silver prices of over $1100 and $17 per ounce respectively encouraged rapid development of the Independence Mine.

Independence Skarn Target: 796,200 ounces of gold

This target is hosted in fractured skarn altered sediments of the Antler Peak, Edna Mountain and Battle Formations, the same rocks that host the historic Fortitude Deposit and much of the mineralization at the present and past producing mines in the Battle Mountain mineral complex. Thin and polished sections of ore show gold occurs as the last mineral phase as minute grains of free gold deposited on micro fractures independent of pre-existing mineral species. More than 25,000 feet of historic core has been re-logged and original pulps from Noranda Exploration and Great Basin Gold were re-analyzed with using modern “best practices” with Certified Reference Materials (CRM’s), duplicates and blanks.

Bonanza Goldfields’ Tarantula Project consists of pre-1955, patented, private property claims in the Date Creek Mountains, consisting of both alluvial and mineralized quartz deposits. A Preliminary Geological Survey of the claims and the immediate region is now being completed. The geological team has already conducted bulk sampling, and is further exploring the outlying sections of the 150 acre property. “I’m personally determined to put things right when it comes to the News of the World,” which was shuttered last month, Murdoch said. “But make no mistake, [Chief Operating Officer] Chase Carey and I run this company as a team, and the strength of that partnership is reflected in our improved results.”

Murdoch said that if something were to happen to him, he hoped Carey would get the top job. “Chase is my partner,” Murdoch said.

The comments came on the media company’s fiscal fourth-quarter conference call with analysts and reporters Wednesday. On the call, Chief Financial Officer David DeVoe projected that the company’s fiscal 2012 segment operating income would grow by a percentage in the low to mid teens.

Meanwhile, Carey said the company plans to use its enlarged balance sheet for disciplined investments, both internally and externally, and maybe additional stock buybacks. News Corp. now has $12.7 billion in cash and cash equivalents after dropping its bid to buy the rest of pay-TV operator British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC (BSY.LN, BSYBY).

On the call, Murdoch said the company’s board has retained independent outside counsel to advise on corporate governance issues. He again expressed regrets at the scandal.

News Corp’s stock has been under pressure, down 23% since earlier July, a move that prompted the company to increase its share-buyback program to $5 billion from the $1.8 billion that was remaining.

Carey said the company plans to carry $2 billion to $3 billion in cash on its balance sheet. The company had been accumulating cash for the BskyB deal, and Carey said it would likely take two to three years to whittle down the reserves.

The company will use the money for acquisitions, Carey said, but will be disciplined about it. He said the priority targets are developing markets and unique content. “These investments should generate mid-teen returns on capital at a minimum,” Carey said.

In addition, News Corp. will look to invest internally. “We strongly prefer to build rather than buy businesses,” Carey said. He said those investments also will be “disciplined” and in the “tens or hundreds of millions, not billions.”

Finally, Carey said, the company also will look at additional stock repurchases, calling the stock “woefully undervalued.”

Earlier Wednesday, the company reported a 22% drop in earnings that stemmed from losses on the sale of social network Myspace, but revenue rose a better-than-expected 11% on growth at the cable network and TV segments. The company also raised its annual dividend.

News Corp.’s Class A shares added 2 cents to $13.73 in after-hours trading. The stock fell 5.8% during the regular session amid a broad market selloff.

News Corp. early last year acquired a 9.09% stake in Rotana for $70 million and had an option to raise its holding to 18.2% in the 18 months following completion of the deal.

Under the latest agreement, News Corp. will exercise 50% of its previously announced option in Rotana, and has retained the right to exercise the remaining 50% of the option until November 2012, the Saudi group said in an emailed statement Wednesday.

“This investment will help to build Rotana’s presence across the region and expand its reach to the Arab population around the world,” Prince Alwaleed said in the statement.

News Corp.–which owns Dow Jones & Co., the publisher of this newswire and the Wall Street Journal–is increasingly seeking out new markets to boost advertising revenues. A stake in Rotana will help expand News Corp.’s presence to the more than 300 million people in the Arab world.
